CC3C #31 Layering Stencil: Paint Resist, Pg. 47

Welcome to another installment of the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge, Vol. 3, hosted by Linda at Studio L3.  This is the Thirty-first challenge in where we work through the techniques of Tim Holtz from, you guessed it…his 3rd Volume of the Compendium of Curiosities!!  As in the past challenges, we can’t give details on the challenge, so don’t ask, but do go get your own copy of Tim’s fabulous book.  Also, InspirationEmporium has offered an extremely generous $50 Gift Certificate for all the odd numbered Challenges! So grab a copy, and join in to play!!  All the deets are here, at Linda’s blog!

OK, this is pretty neat.  And a really great way to get lighter layers from the background to still stand out.

I’m working on Marjie’s Online “Inventive Ink: Mixed media effects" class, and finally got the smaller Dylusions Journal (Boy..that size is freeing!!! The large one makes me overthink!)  I also received my new Hickory Smoke Distress Inks, so had to give them a try.  So after using the technique, I sprayed the pages with the Fossilized Amber and Hickory Smoke stains.  #1: Need more spray stains   #2: that Hickory Smoke is AMAZING!!

I added the Honeycomb Frameworks, the butterflies from the French Flight Framelits, a few more stamps and stencils, and Yay!  For the few inserts on the honeycomb, I marbleized distress stains on some watercolor paper, then stamped some random stamps with Broken China and archival black, then ran it with the die.  I also used Glossy Accents in a few of the holes.

Now go visit the wonderful Curiosity Crew’s work to see how they showcase their Paint resists! Have a great week everyone.

WOYWW #315

Welcome to WOYWW…the “What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday”  blog hop created by Julia at the StampingGround,  so hop over there to join the fun.

I got to play some more in the art journal over the weekend, so now am working on things to put on the background pages.  I now see why art journaling for me will be a work of love, until I have tons of time for crafting.  Getting all the pieces/parts together takes time!

So these pieces will be stamped with my new Brett Weldele stamps, and then placed in the journal.  I also got some wacky sayings stamps from Lost Coast Designs that should pair up nicely with these ladies.
The rest is rather neat, as I was using the Dylusion’s Ink Sprays…now there is motivation to clean things up first!!! And of course all those new Distress Paint’s don’t fit in my previous storage tote; time to go shopping! Yay!!

Now go say Hello to Julia and see what this WOYWW phenom is all about!  Have a great week everyone!

CC3C #30: Faux Cracked Glass, Pg. 54

Welcome to another installment of the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge, Vol. 3, hosted by Linda at Studio L3.  This is the Thirtieth challenge in where we work through the techniques of Tim Holtz from, you guessed it…his 3rd Volume of the Compendium of Curiosities!!  As in the past challenges, we can’t give details on the challenge, so don’t ask, but do go get your own copy of Tim’s fabulous book.  Also, TheFunky Junkie Boutique has offered an extremely generous $25 Gift Certificate for all the even numbered weeks! So grab a copy, and join in to play!!  All the deets are here, at Linda’s blog!

What a fun effect!!   I picked up these little bottles at the Heirloom Rubber Stamp Show in Springfield, MA this past weekend.  Good thing as I, errr, have temporarily misplaced the small vials I have from Tim Holtz and 7 Gypsies (although I think those are dark glass, so not sure how they would have worked).

So here is my bottle of wishes.  Except for a drying issue of the 2nd step, due to some outrageous high humidity for upstate NY in June, everything seemed to work as shown.  Of course once done, I had no idea what to do with them; so here is a small burlap panel, coated a tad with Shabby Shutters Distress Paint.  I played around with some Frameworks dies, but ended up with this cool one from Tim’s Mixed media set.  I wanted a bit of sparkle on the cut outs, so used Distress Glitter..but it didn’t work the way I planned; probably should have used Glossy Accents, as that’s what I used to attach the bottle and border.  The stamp is a new one also from the show…I want to say Impression Obsession…could be Technique Junkie…

More Art Journal in Progress:More from the Inventive Ink Online Class...

Look, I'm actually using my Dylusion's Art Journal...and all my Dylusion Ink Spray's.  And an Apron! See Hettie, I can learn!  I see why I'm visually drawn to other's art journals...because I'm jealous of the fact that they have time to play in a journal, and have textured letters and pieces/parts to go on a page...

so for now, be happy I have started on backgrounds...and some day will fill them up.

WOYWW #314

Welcome to WOYWW…the “What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday”  blog hop created by Julia at the StampingGround,  so hop over there to join the fun.

OK, not entirely bragging…or intentionally…but these are some of the piles of the stash I acquired at the Heirloom Rubber Stamp Expo in Springfield MA. this weekend.  I was pretty much just unloading the backpack so I can find the goodies that have to be shipped out. And if I hear of one vendor at that show complaining they didn’t do well, and that is why the show gets smaller every year…it’s not my fault…I went above and beyond in doing my part to ensure the success of these small independent stamp companies!  And yes, the stacks are quite literally dumped on top of all the supplies I left out after my cracked glass (using rock candy crackle paint..no broken glass yet) episode.  With luck I’ll be able to post that later this week.

Oh, and here is the tote bag that is holding all the rubber stamps & dies that I acquired (OK, now I'm bragging!) See what happens when all the LLS's disappear?…Yup, this will be a major reorganization weekend!!

Now go say Hello to Julia and see what this WOYWW phenom is all about!  Have a great week everyone!

WOYWW #313

Welcome to WOYWW…the “What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday”  blog hop created by Julia at the StampingGround,  so hop over there to join the fun.

First; My Desk….I spent the weekend working on more lessons for an online class called Inventive Inks: Colorful Mixed Media Effects. (You can see some of those Here) The next lesson uses Dylusions Ink Sprays, which I have managed to totally make a mess of. So as a pre-emptive strike, I tried to move everything damageable out of the way.  I have a few stencils I plan on using, and a tag I made for the class using the Nostalgic Batik method..Yup, that’s right…I used an iron…(the things we do for the sake of art..)
Some of the other batik’ed tags are to the right, and some other odd tags above, along with my eroded metallic trinket box.

And here is the ATC I made for the Anniversary.  I still have 2 left if anyone would like to swap!

Now go say Hello to Julia and see what this WOYWW phenom is all about!  Have a great week everyone!

More Inventive Inkyness

I’m lovin’ this (Inventive Ink: Colorful Mixed Media Effects Online Class) class, but do wish there was a way to save the lessons on a lap top; they can be downloaded on to an Apple device, but my iPad is full, so can only hold one at a time, and we still haven’t gotten broadband up our hill…ah to be a part of the 21st century!

This past weekend I finally got to lesson 4, and finished up my projects on lesson 5.  I also finished (maybe?) my spread that I started with this class.
Here are some tags using the Nostalgic Batik technique…yes..I used an iron…/shudder.

And here are examples of Rusted Enamel and Distress Stain Stamping. Shattered Stains technique was used on the butterfly above.  I do wish the Distress Crackle Paint had better packaging; even spritzing with water after each time I use it, they end up drying up. I had to scrape out what I could to use for this one, as the brush was all dry, and there was no reconstituting this time.

And I got to finish the spread I started, using the butterfly.  I originally planned on it not being centered, but didn’t think of that when I started stamping the Penny Black butterfly…and once down, I was afraid to peal it off in case the page came up with it.

The next lesson uses the Dylusions Ink Sprays…I have yet to not make a mess with those…so fingers crossed!  Stay tuned….

CC3C #29: Eroded Metallic Pg. 44

Welcome to another installment of the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge, Vol. 3, hosted by Linda at Studio L3.  This is the Twenty-ninth challenge in where we work through the techniques of Tim Holtz from, you guessed it…his 3rd Volume of the Compendium of Curiosities!!

OK…I confess...this is not my first project for this challenge; nor my second attempt at the technique, as I tried it with the Online Class, Creative Chemistry 102. I wasn’t terrible successful then, and my first attempt; a Trinket box, was Ok.  Then I took a look at the Curiosity Crew’s projects, and decided to give it one more go, on a paper Mache “K” that I had gotten as a gift from my good friend Hettie, and thought it would look great on.  If I didn’t screw it up…

And yeah! Much better.  I only have a few of the paints, so used Salty Ocean, Peeled Paint and Mowed Lawn as my base, and Bronze on top.  Sort of a patina feel to it.  The paper mache did bubble horrifically with the first coat where it got really wet; but the next day it had dried out nicely.  Then with the 2nd coat, even more bubbles formed where it was wet; I was afraid I’d pull some of the paper layers off, but it ended up being ok.  I added the lace, as I love it, and if I can’t use horded stash on my own projects for me, when will I use it?  The 7 as its my lucky number, and day of my birth (7/7), a few remaining gears,   Butterflies, as they are my thing, and I was planning on adding some flowers, only to remember I lent my Tattered Floral Garland die out, so I’ll do that later.

And, in true disclosure, here it is, my little trinket box, done with Salty Ocean and Broken China paints, then Pewter Distress Paint.  And this was the smallest saying I had that made sense, which covered up the best part of the erosion. Figures! LOL!  I added the flowers that have been in my stash forever, and used Glossy Enamel to add the centers.  I also added the tiny gears, to help reinforce the metallic aspect.

Now go visit the wonderful Curiosity Crew’s work to see how they showcased this cool Eroded Metallic effect! Have a great week everyone.
