WOYWW #269

Welcome to another “What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday” (WOYWW), the brilliant blog hop initiated by our lovely hostess, Julia at TheStamping Ground….and you can see all the deets there.

LOST: One Muse, last scene 3 weeks ago.
Generally creative and not dangerous to others...Best cajoled with coloring items….and rum.
If found please sequester in a cheery room and contact Kim.

Yes…two weeks to come up with  this card for the Compendium Challenge….which you can read about here.  The butterfly is how I wanted it; more or less. The rest…I confess was a “get ‘er done” attempt.

Also spewed about: Some other stamps I was thinking of using, some piled inkpads that didin’t make it back, the Distress Paints I used on the butterfly, some dies that also didn’t find their way home; oh, and the half eaten bag of my last Trader Joe’s “Indulgence” trail mix (tucked behind the paints)…yes, I apparently ate half the bag when playing blocks with the stamps last week…knowing my hoarding instincts like you all do…you know that is a sign of trouble!!

I do hope my Muse comes home soon…even the photo is blurry!!!

Best run along now to Julia’s, in case lingering here proves Muse-itis  is contagious…

CC3C #7: Painted Industrial

Welcome to another installment of the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge, Vol. 3, hosted by Linda at Studio L3.  This is the third challenge in where we work through the techniques of Tim Holtz from, you guessed it…his 3rd Volume of the Compendium of Curiosities!!  As in the past challenges, we can’t give details on the challenge, so don’t ask, but do go get your own copy of Tim’s fabulous book.  Also, Inspiration Emporium has offered an extremely generous $50 Gift Certificate for all the odd numbered Challenges! So grab a copy, and join in to play!!  All the deets are here, at Linda’s blog!

Some preliminaries: I have done this technique before, in a workshop with Tim and from following one of his videos.  I really like this effect.  And my Muse has apparently skipped the country, is not returning my calls or emails, but has left various personal belongings in her hang-out, so yes, I have MCIS (Muse Criminal Investigative Services) on it, even though there has been no ransom note, and they feel that she has left on her own volition; some have speculated driven away by the untidiness.  Hogwash—I say!

So this is what I am left with…the new Layered Butterfly, which I used the technique on, with chipped sapphire and Wild honey.  I was hoping for a more outlined effect, but overall I like it-more aged patina then clean industrial.  The rest of the card is one hot mess.  I used Chipped Sapphire as the tie-in; but the color shift on the butterfly didn’t help.  Looking at photo, I think I’ll go in and touch the edges with Wild Honey to warm up the background.  And maybe re-do the trellis “inserts” with a honey/sapphire print to bring in more color….or maybe make a different card for the birthday, and do another burlap panel with the butterfly…

There is still a week to play along.   Stop at Linda’s to get all the details. Have a great week everyone.

WOYWW #268

Welcome to another “What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday” (WOYWW), the brilliant blog hop initiated by our lovely hostess, Julia at TheStamping Ground….and you can see all the deets there.

I had distressingly little time in the craft room this week.  I finally got up there Sunday with all intentions on working on the next compendium challenge with a,ummm, lets say “chillier” feel, so as not to panic those not yet thinking of a date in December. (yeah, don’t get all “ohh, she’s one of those”..I’ll be slapping my cards together the week before despite all my best attentions…I’m just trying to be prepared with stuff to sell for the November craft fair)

So, after 20 minutes of moving stuff around, and finding my foil tape sheets..I got nuthin’  I normally don’t check the designers work in challenges until I finish mine, lest I be swayed..if you know what I mean..And stingy me won’t cut into these to play around until I have a least an inkling of a plan..So after another hour of touching embossing folders; playing blocks with some of my Christmas stamps, I snapped this picture then want back downstairs to my other obsession; online gaming, where I got to run amok with my Mage and fireball things: A girl has to do what a girl has to do to save the world.

Typing this three days later..and still no thoughts..I guess I’ll be checking out the Design Team’s work during lunch…stay tuned. I hope everyone has a much craftier week!

WOYWW #267

Welcome to another “What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday” (WOYWW), the brilliant blog hop initiated by our lovely hostess, Julia at TheStamping Ground….and you can see all the deets there.

Yes, I had a nice long 5 day weekend….yes I got in the craft room…and apparently my Muse was also on vacation…aside from my panel for the Compendium Challenge (which you can see here), I just kept moving things around.   So what you see: some stamps I was toying with using, some Tim Holtz findings I have to put away, once I straighten up my TH space to fit them back in, some glue sticks I had to buy since I can’t seem to find the last package I bought (but know I haven’t opened), the panel I finished, and a stamp set and 2 new Spellbinder dies I purchased at the only remaining LLS in E. Greenbush, with a gift certificate I got at Christmas.

Oh, and see that paper hanging over the top edge? Yes, I got that there too…It’s a finely woven wicker on a paper backing…I thought it said $2.99; Cool: will make a great layering pieces…couldn't figure why I had to add money as my GC didn't cover the purchases…got home to look at the receipt: That sheet of paper is $10.99!!!!! It will now become the background of all my photos!!!! No die machine will be going anywhere near it! LOL!

OK; I've shown you mine! Now stop at Julia’s to hop around workdesks around the world! Happy Crafting everyone!

CC3C #6: Altered Burlap Panels

Welcome to the 6th installment of the CC3C!  And what is this challenge, you ask?  The Compendiumof Curiosities Challenge, Vol. 3, hosted by Linda at Studio L3, where we work through the techniques of Tim Holz in his third volume of, you guessed it:” The Compendium of Curiosities”.  As in the past challenges, we can’t give details on the challenge, so don’t ask, but do go get your own copy of Tim’s fabulous book. As an added plus; there is a chance to win an awesome prize.  Also, The Funky Junkie Boutique has offered an extremely generous $50 Gift Certificate for all the even numbered weeks! So grab a copy, and join in to play!!  All the deets are here, at Linda’s blog!

So, my first crack at a burlap panel.  I purchased the smaller one as I wasn't sure if I could fill the larger ones…hey; gotta start somewhere!  Now, based on the instructions/pictures; I fixed an idea in my head that I 1)liked some of the burlap peeking at the edges, and 2) that with the tissue layer, it would be much paler there.  1) I do like having the burlap edge; 2) no; it started out quite dark…maybe the earlier Symphony Tissue was thinner than the newer patterns.

Then I decided to add texture past chicken wire around the corners. No sooner do I pull the stencil away, and I decide I ruined it…I did smooth out some of the edges, but left some in the corners. (you can see on Instagram, under Pussnflutes) I didn't like the white, so first I tried to color it with Distress inks, just hitting the top with the applicator, but the chicken wire was pretty low, so mostly the tissue and burlap was colored.  Then I used Inca-gold and that helped brighten it up. The saying was my main focus, instead of chit chat stickers, and I also used some of my practice roses from the first challenge.  Added the Our Daily Bread Chickadee (die and stamp) some Ideology goodness, and I actually like it.

Here is a detail of the molding paste. I used Golden brand--see the slight gold "wires"

And the saying; honestly..why can’t I remember who made this stamp? No. it is not because I just had a Birthday….

There is still a week to play with your burlap panel; Stop at Linda’s to get all the details. Have a great week everyone.

WOYWw #266

Welcome to another “What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday” (WOYWW), the brilliant blog hop initiated by our lovely hostess, Julia at TheStamping Ground….and you can see all the deets there.

Wow…busy weekend here in the craft room!  And the desk shows it! Well, actually not as bad as it was; I am truly making an attempt to at the very least put the ink pads away when done…(it’s only a few inches for Pete’s sake! )

So this week, after making 3 birthday cards..one of which I didn’t photograph for some stupid reason..I then started the 6th Compendium Challenge (which you can check out here), which is altering burlap panels…what you are looking at: a possibly destroyed burlap panel..ok, maybe not destroyed; but not sure it’s heading in the direction I had in my head.  I have the rest of the week off, so first thing tomorrow, after I organize and purge the hall closet and laundry room, is see if it’s salvageable…or if I spend the rest of the day shopping! (Have you noticed how many Birthday offers you get nowadays?  The beauty of having to register online shopping cart accounts and Appreciation Cards! There are the TH roses I plan to use, the Golden Molding Paste that got the better of me, a feather stencil I reeeealy want to try to fit in (Dylusions Black Marble ink spray is/was in my head)  some dies to the left, the water pen I just realized is still uncapped…the saying that will be my main focus of the panel  and a ton of other scraps, misc. pieces, and tools all lying about.

And here are 2 of the cards; the lighthouse for my Husband’s birthday…colored with distress markers, and the cupcake for a co-worker, using the TH framelets die/stamp set, and also colored with the distress markers.

Whew!  So now stop at Julia’s to hop around workdesks around the world! Happy Crafting everyone!

WOYWW #265

Welcome to another “What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday” (WOYWW), the brilliant blog hop initiated by our lovely hostess, Julia at TheStamping Ground….and you can see all the deets there.

So, while being motivated by the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Vol.#3 (which you can see the current piece here)  to get in the craft room far more regularly…and as (Gulp! Thanks Hettie) the Holiday Craft Show is fairly right around the corner..I've been in here quite a bit this past week.  (No...I will not show holiday cards yet…relax!!)  What is here now is the start of my Husband’s birthday card.  The Compendium challenge was to watercolor with distress markers, so I kept on going, ‘cause I LOVE those markers! The stamp is from “Our Daily Bread”  as is the saying,  A few ink pads are still out, as are the Sizzix thin dies…a few Distress Stains from the challenge that I may end up using for this…and of course the ever-present Arizona Green Tea…for times I just don’t dare to drink and ink…

So now stop at Julia’s to hop around workdesks around the world! And Happy July 4th for those on this side of the Atlantic!  Happy Crafting everyone!
